  1. Cut the chicken thighs into small pieces, big enough for about two bites, and place them into a mixing bowl.
  2. Add the garlic, ginger, tamari, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  3. Leave to marinate for 4 hours or overnight for best results.
  4. Heat your deep fryer to 180C/355F.
  5. In a small bowl, mix the protein powder and oat fiber.
  6. Add a small amount of chicken to the “flour,” coat lightly, shake off the excess, then place into the deep fryer. I recommend cooking in batches of about ten pieces at a time if you have a small benchtop fryer like this.
  7. Cook for 3-5 minutes, until the chicken, is a deep golden brown color and cooked through.
  8. Serve with Sesame Mayonnaise and fresh lemon wedges.

  1. Is protein/whey powder essential in your recipes or is it just for flavour? It is not on my grocery list and I’d like to keep it that way.

    • Hi Wilma,

There is no flavor added from the unflavored protein powder, it is used as a flour substitute and is essential to the recipes that it is used in. If you don’t wish to purchase, I would recommend avoiding the recipes that include it.
