Keto san choy bau is ready in less than 30 minutes, It’s our healthy version of the classic Chinese appetizer.
If you’re not a fan of pork, just swap it out for ground chicken or ground beef.
This keto san choy bau recipe makes 4 serves. 1 serving is 3 lettuce cups filled with a quarter of the pork mixture.
The ground pork mixture (finished at step 5) can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days, or frozen for up to 3 months.
Keto San Choy Bau Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon of Sesame Oil
- 1 clove of Garlic, crushed
- 2 teaspoons of Ginger, finely chopped
- 1 pound of Ground Pork
- 3 Scallions, thinly sliced
- ⅓ cup of Keto Sweet Soy Sauce
- ¼ cup of Bamboo Shoots, chopped
- ¼ teaspoon of White Pepper, ground
- ¼ teaspoons of Xanthan Gum
- Salt, to taste
- ¼ cup of Cilantro, roughly chopped
- ½ cup of Bean Sprouts
- 12 small Romaine or Iceberg Lettuce Leaves
- 2 teaspoons of Sesame Seeds
- Fresh Lime, to serve
How to Make Keto San Choy Bau
- Place a large saucepan over high heat and add the sesame oil, garlic, and ginger, and saute for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the ground pork. Break up the pork and cook until browned.
- Add the scallions, Keto Sweet Soy, bamboo shoots, and pepper and mix well.
- Bring to a simmer, then sprinkle over the xanthan gum. Continue to cook, whilst stirring, until the sauce has thickened. Remove from the heat.
- Taste and add salt, if needed.
- Stir through half of the cilantro.
- Place the lettuce cups onto your serving place and spoon the mixture evenly between them. Top with the remaining cilantro, the bean sprouts, and sesame seeds.
- Serve immediately with a wedge of lime.
